San Jose healthcare professionals need flexible training options. Hospital shift schedules at Regional Medical Center of San Jose, O’Connor Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, and Kaiser Permanente San Jose don’t always align with fixed classroom sessions. That’s why Self-Guided Learning™ courses from the American Heart Association® are gaining traction among nurses, EMTs, paramedics, and physicians across Silicon Valley.
Safety Training Seminars offers Self-Guided Learning courses for BLS, ACLS, and PALS at their Willow Glen location — 1261 Lincoln Ave, Suite 213, San Jose, CA 95125. The office is open Monday through Sunday, 8 am to 10 pm. You can complete the entire course pathway on your own schedule, without attending a fixed classroom event.
Self-Guided Learning™ is an American Heart Association® learning approach that combines two independent components:
Together, these two components fulfill the requirements of the Self-Guided Learning course pathway. Upon successful completion of both, learners receive an American Heart Association Course Completion eCard for BLS, ACLS, or PALS.
This is different from blended learning, which requires an instructor-led skills session. Self-Guided Learning courses are fully self-directed — no instructor, no fixed class time, no group schedule.
The online learning activity uses True Adaptive™ learning powered by Area9 Lyceum. This technology continuously assesses your knowledge and confidence level, then adjusts the content path based on your responses.
Spend less time on topics you already understand. Focus more on areas where gaps exist. The result: a personalized, competency-focused learning experience aligned with the latest American Heart Association guidelines.
You can start and stop at any time. The course is accessible on desktop, laptop, or tablet. Completing the online learning activity alone does not result in an AHA Course Completion eCard — you must also complete the self-guided skills session.
The self-guided skills session takes place at the CPR Verification Station™ learning center inside Safety Training Seminars’ Willow Glen office. No instructor is present during the session.
During the skills session, you independently perform required psychomotor skills — compressions, ventilations, and two-rescuer CPR. The CPR Verification Station learning center provides real-time, objective performance feedback using a Voice-Assisted Manikin (VAM). The VAM measures compression depth, recoil, rate, and ventilation in real time.
The station objectively measures your performance against AHA-defined criteria. You may repeat the required skills activity as many times as needed to achieve a passing score. Most skills sessions take about 30 minutes.
Once you successfully complete both the online learning activity and the self-guided skills session, you receive your American Heart Association Course Completion eCard — the same day.
Self-Guided Learning courses work well for:
If your employer requires an American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, or PALS Provider eCard — this course pathway meets that requirement.
The Willow Glen office sits on Lincoln Avenue between Voyager and The Universal Connection shops. Street parking runs along Lincoln Avenue, and public parking lots sit just behind the nearby storefronts. Take the stairs to the second floor and head to Suite 213.

I had some knowledge from EMT school, but with this program, it offered a lot more in-depth information which I really appreciated and I will carry on to my EMT career.Posted on Anna Ra Mo aTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Excellent courses in CPR and safety training everything is explained so well that even someone who is computer challenged as myself felt comfortable with the whole process. I will definitely continue to use this company for all of our certifications.Posted on Jillian DudleyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I’ve done both my ACLS and BLS here, love the online learning portion you can work on at home before coming in for the hands on skills. Great company! I will continue to come back each time I need to renew!Posted on Marlene TranTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We arranged for a private instructor (John) to come to our location and train a group of three adults and seventeen children ranging in ages 10-17. This was my third time receiving certification and it was by far the most memorable and informative. Our instructor was so knowledgeable and really kept the kids engaged. One of our participants wasn’t even on the roster to participate, but he happened to hear the first fifteen minutes and then asked his mom on the spot if she could sign him up so he could stay. The booking process was so easy. We’ll be scheduling again in another two years. Thank you so much!
